Assistant, Health Insurance Navigator Program
(temporary half time)

General Description: The Public Policy and Education Fund (PPEF), a non-profit organization with offices throughout New York State, has a position available related to enrollment in health insurance programs under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the landmark law passed by Congress in 2010. The position is temporary, half time (specific hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant but will involve several hours during the Monday to Friday 9-5 period).

Under the ACA, individuals and small businesses can enroll health insurance coverage under health insurance “exchanges.” In New York, the exchange is called “NY State of Health,”  https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/. The state funds “navigators” to recruit individuals and small businesses who may wish to enroll in health coverage, to advise consumers as to their health insurance options, and to assist consumers to enroll.

This temporary position (until September 30, 2017) will involve two sets of tasks: 1) administrative tasks related to the PPEF navigator program, including but not limited to setting up appointments for navigators, database work and phone answering; and 2) outreach and public relations works to publicize the program.

The successful candidate will demonstrate these types of strengths:

  • Experience in social service delivery with individual clients and/or community or political organizing or equivalent volunteer experience.
  • Experience in recruitment and outreach highly preferred.
  • Preference for applicants who are fluent in both English and Spanish or otherwise multilingual.
  • Good computer and administrative skills (if reporting is added to the position).

Additional Information: PPEF (www.ppefny.org) is a statewide community based organization that that advocates for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. The position pays $15.00-$16.00/hour and is 20 hours/week. We require a reliable car and a valid driver’s license.
