Oregon Internal Organizing Project

The Oregon Internal Organizing Project seeks an organizer who wants to join the fight to preserve and strengthen quality public education and employee working conditions. This project is a joint venture with the American Federation of Teachers and AFT-Oregon.

This is a full-time position to work on internal organizing campaigns for locals of the Oregon American Federation of Teachers. The position will be based out of Portland, but will require some travel around the state. The Organizer is responsible for a variety of aspects of a campaign including building relationships with workers, developing issues-based organizing plans for assigned areas, and for recruiting and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists. Union organizing experience preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours
  • Be motivated, responsible, organized, professional and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team
  • Experience working in community, student, labor, or environmental activism
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile in good working order
  • Being a skilled and experienced organizer is desirable
