Interactive Media Developer

The Interactive Media Developer will play a key role in assessing, upgrading and adapting the functionality, design and contents of MTA websites, social media and other forms of electronic communications. The position calls for a combination of technical skills, including website development and design ability, along with a command of the strategic use of current social media platforms and adaptability to emerging electronic communications approaches and technologies.

Job Duties

  • Develops, designs, maintains and edits websites and social media channels and posts content of all types.
  • Upgrades and refines usability and technical aspects of MTA websites and social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Flickr.
  • Integrates diverse technologies into MTA websites, including video and interactive services.
  • Oversees and executes an efficient design process using various prototyping techniques to develop layouts for web, mobile web and e-mail formats.
  • Participates in managing a regular software release cycle, including planning and executing enhancement requests.
  • Integrates third-party services to achieve desired functionality in websites and other digital communications.
  • Develops e-mail and social media strategies in conjunction with association media, activism and political priorities.
  • Edits content and revises documents for website and social media use.
  • Refines and updates content in keeping with MTA’s positions, policies and objectives.
  • Frequently updates skills and knowledge through research and training to meet ongoing changes in information technology and ensures that developments are rapidly assessed for integration into MTA’s electronic communications strategy.
  • Works with the communications director, web content manager, manager of information technology services, consultants and outside vendors on digital communications projects and integration.
  • Takes, edits and disseminates photos and video of MTA events and other activities.
  • Develops public relations and internal communications strategies and materials.
  • Works nights and weekends, as required.


  • College degree in communications technology or related field (master's preferred).
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of related professional experience in electronic communications.
  • Demonstrated experience in website design.
  • Demonstrated experience in website and social media development.
  • Understanding of current website and social media technology and practices.
  • Command of database use, including Microsoft Access.
  • Command of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Command of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly website applications.
  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript skills.
  • Experience with the .NET programming environment (Sitecore experience a plus), including setting up and managing a development environment.
  • Proven ability to support compliance with best practices and standards.
  • Experience in cross-platform testing.
  • Analytics skills, including familiarity with Google Analytics and quantitative performance tracking.
  • Integration skills, including a pragmatic approach to integrating third-party services to achieve desired functionality.
  • Ability to research what services to use and how best to leverage them.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with vendors, consultants and other professionals to produce work of the highest caliber.
  • Ability to be responsive and courteous under all circumstances.
