Field Service Directors / Attorneys

Based in Chicago, IL


The Cook County College Teachers Union, Local 1600, currently has two (2) full-time staff vacancies for Field Service Directors who will also serve as in-house counsel. Both positions will be based out of the Local 1600 Office at 1901 W. Carroll Ave, Chicago IL. The start date will be no later than March 1, 2018, but potentially sooner.

Job Qualifications:
The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • A law degree and experience in labor law
  • Experience in training and developing union leaders
  • Experience negotiating union contracts
  • Experience organizing union locals
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to persuade and motivate people
  • Experience with community colleges and working with educational labor unions
  • Essential computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and communications software
  • Ability to speak and present before large audiences

Main Functions:
A successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist chapters in handling grievances and arbitrations
  • Assist chapters in drawing up and negotiating contracts
  • Train local leaders in essential leadership functions
  • Strategize with local leaders to organize campaigns to build power at each chapter
  • Help chapters know and execute their rights and responsibilities under collective bargaining law
  • Aid chapters in handling Office of Inspector General and EEO complaints
