Statewide Public Sector Organizer Job Description
A coalition of Washington unions representing public-sector workers is seeking an experienced union organizer to coordinate regional and statewide intra-union organizing activities from November 2017 through October 2018. Our goal is to build stronger local connections within the labor community and to work toward common goals that strengthen the labor movement in Washington.

Primary Responsibilities:
The statewide organizer will lead and coordinate regional meetings and actions involving members of the Washington State Labor Council and other affiliated unions. This involves working with state-level and local union leaders and staff, and includes coordinating dates, times, locations and agendas. Strategies and goals will be determined by a steering committee of representatives from the coalition partners, in consultation with the statewide organizer. The organizer will report to the steering committee.

Work Location:
The statewide organizer will be provided office space at existing offices in Seattle, Federal Way or Olympia, but the job will require statewide travel.

Requirements:
This job requires experience as a union organizer and an understanding of union culture, structure and issues, and a familiarity with legislative issues affecting organized labor in Washington. The preferred candidate has a demonstrated track record of both internal and external organizing success and understands the critical nature of timelines and field coordination with multiple unions and can actively engage union members in a way that inspires action.

Compensation:
The statewide organizer will be compensated competitively, depending of experience, plus mileage, meal and other reasonable expenses.
