About the Position:
CPD seeks a dynamic and resourceful Digital Fellow for digital organizing, social media engagement, email communication, management of data, fundraising, writing and online communications. This is an entry level position that will expose the person to a range of digital organizing strategies and tactics.

Under the guidance of a Digital Manager, the person in this role will help leverage technology to expand our reach, build support for our campaigns, and drive fundraising and engagement. They will learn about and work with CPD’s exciting roster of progressive campaigns on the frontline of resistance and community empowerment. The Digital Fellow will work with and assist other members of the CPD Digital Team within its Public Affairs Department with rapid response to news and organizing opportunities online and will be the primary person monitoring our presence in social media.

CPD’s structure and organizing approach involves close collaboration with a variety of local, state and national partners, and so the Digital Fellow may be asked to support those interactions and alliances. Strong communications skills, attention to detail, aptitude for technology, and the ability to multitask will be critical to success in this role. Experience with grassroots activism, multi-channel online communications, and work in campaign environments preferred. This fellowship is a full-time position for 3-4 months with flexible location.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Online Organizing: Draft, proof, and send campaign emails, including maintaining a comprehensive email calendar; draft copy for CPD web properties; develop materials for and facilitate communication with allied organizations to expand reach and strengthen coalitions; post regular updates to campaign social media
  • Social Media Engagement: Support CPD social media by monitoring the performance of each account; coordinate with other staff as appropriate to ensure regular content updates; implement strategies for increasing traffic and followers
  • Contact Management: Assist Digital Manager as needed on email list management/updating and other automated communications and data management systems to track and maximize engagement of supporters and donors
  • Writing and Communications: Draft and edit digital content, Facebook and Twitter posts, member emails, and online appeals; work with other staff to develop rich and engaging content that helps tell the story of our work and our campaigns in creative and compelling ways using online media. This includes sharable graphics, animations, and video content
  • Monitor and respond to all incoming campaign email communications; coordinate with other staff and coalition partners as needed to respond to incoming inquiries and information needs
  • Fundraising: Work with Digital Manager as directed, to execute online fundraising strategies; explore and report on digital fundraising trends and tools; assist as directed on surfacing online and offline prospects

Qualifications:

  • Digital Organizing Experience: 1-2 years of relevant experience as part of online grassroots issue or advocacy campaigns, including with social media platforms, image and video editing; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong overall technical skills and the ability to quickly learn new platforms; familiarity with online advocacy, communications, and email/data management systems. Graphic design, video production and HTML skills are a plus
  • Demonstration of Shared Values: Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of CPD’s mission and agenda to fight for social and economic justice as reflected at https://populardemocracy.org/our-work/campaigns/all; experience working with and organizing diverse constituencies, including grassroots activist organizations, young people, and people of color
  • Highly Motivated & Collaborative: Enjoys working under pressure, problem solving, and figuring out how to get things done in accordance with deadlines, deliverables and changing circumstances; self-starter with strong interpersonal skills who works well independently and with teams; comfortable working in a collaborative, consensus-based organization
