NCCRC researchers work to further the organizing, bargaining, and public policy objectives of the Carpenters union. The NCCRC coordinates the work of over 20 northern California Carpenters-affiliated local unions that have 30,000 Northern California carpenter, drywaller, insulator, lather, millwright, pile driver, modular furniture installer, and industrial carpenter members. The NCCRC deploys strategic research and policy research to maintain union strength, fight for area standard wages and benefits, and combat wage theft in the construction labor markets of Northern California.


  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute research, including research into operations of industry sectors, individual companies, and regulatory/policy bodies;
  • Experience mining information from public records & datasets;
  • Demonstrable quantitative data management, modeling and analytical skills; experience with IMPLAN regional economic impact analysis is a plus;
  • Demonstrated ability to convert research findings into actionable strategies and tactics;
  • Familiarity with finance, business, construction project management, or planning/development;
  • Excellence in presenting complex information clearly and concisely, including through data visualizations;
  • Ability to produce issue & policy briefs;
  • Spanish or Chinese language proficiency is a plus.


  • At least two years of full-time research-analysis experience, strategic campaign experience, and/or experience in the construction or real estate development industry;
  • Commitment to building the industrial & community-based power of working people;
  • Readiness to exercise individual initiative while working within a chain of command;
  • Experience juggling multiple projects, tight deadlines, and occasionally irregular hours;
  • Some travel within the 46 northern counties of California (valid CA driver’s license required);
  • Occasional out-of-state conference-related travel;
  • Readiness, upon completion of a probationary period, to make a long-term commitment to the men and women represented by the NCCRC;
  • The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Availability to begin work promptly upon receipt of offer.

Compensation is scaled to the prevailing wage for a carpenter working in the San Francisco Bay Area and includes a truly excellent package of health, retirement, and vacation benefits. Less experienced researchers may start at 80 percent of journey-level wages plus full fringes and may – upon satisfactory performance reviews – attain journey-level rates after two years. The research-analyst is provided with a vehicle to conduct union business.
