Technology Support Specialist

Associate Staff Position
Secretaries/Specialists Schedule

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Director, Information Technology

General Description of Position:
Provides technical support, training, and assistance to staff and helps maintain the OEA computing system environment, including Microsoft Office 365, phones (VoIP), shared disk space, email services, web services and databases.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides technical support for hardware and software problems and maintains an efficient helpdesk operation to assist staff and member leaders with computer issues
  2. Performs incident management using Help Desk database including frequent updates and reporting
  3. Analyzes, diagnoses and fixes computer problems
  4. Maintains documentation and training materials to empower end users towards self-help
  5. Interacts with and coordinates issues with the NEA Helpdesk as needed
  6. Assists with creating or procuring software training for staff
  7. Assists with the maintenance and administration of local computer networks and software systems
  8. Promotes and enforces OEA security and acceptable use policies, maintaining accurate security levels, passwords and data access
  9. Assists in protection of data including network intrusion, virus protection, and data back-ups
  10. Maintains equipment inventory and monitors status of maintenance agreements, warrantees, licenses, and support contracts
  11. Participates in cross-functional teams and committees as assigned
  12. Supports OEA objectives and works collaboratively to accomplish desired results
  13. On occasion, supports A/V and other IT resources associated with member and staff meetings.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Two years of college in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or equivalent training (see #2). Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Three years of installing, operating, maintaining networked computers and server systems in a multiple platform environment and installing and maintaining peripheral devices (printers, scanners, hard drives, etc.)
  3. In depth knowledge required in current Microsoft Office Suite(s). Prefer literacy in Office 365, QuickBooks, SharePoint, and Docuware
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of: Windows workstation and server operating systems; networking software including Windows Active Directory; virtual machines, TCP/IP networking protocols and related Internet technologies (email, client/server, FTP server, WWW server, HTML); network management systems (configuration, analysis, maintenance, backup, and archiving)
  5. Demonstrated ability to: diagnose and correct software problems and conflicts, and to identify and repair hardware malfunctions; and conduct research to solve technical problems
  6. Experience with making moves/adds/changes to VOIP or Centrex phone systems
  7. Ability to work independently, determine priorities and make decisions
  8. Ability to use judgment in daily completion of duties
  9. Flexibility to learn new software and assist others with use of software
  10. Demonstrated experience in meeting established deadlines
  11. Ability to help and work with many different individuals. Willingness to display a helpful attitude toward members/staff served.
  12. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to deal with stress in an acceptable manner
  13. History of minimal absenteeism and tardiness
  14. Ability to stand, sit, and bend in order to perform routine office functions
  15. Ability to lift twenty pounds (20 lbs.) to thirty pounds (30 lbs.)
  16. Ability to communicate visually, verbally, and in writing
  17. Ability to maintain confidential information
  18. Flexibility in schedule. This position may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
  19. Valid driver's license required, ability to travel to OEA locations as directed
