Staff Accountant

The New York State Nurses Association is a labor organization of over 45,000 frontline nurses standing together for strength at work, nursing practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. We are New York's largest union and professional association for registered nurses.
The Staff Accountant is responsible with Assisting the Accounting Manager with the financial reporting needs of the association. Also responsible for, but not limited to, all financial reporting and disbursement functions related to the NYC & Westchester County Welfare Plans and the H+H Tuition and Child and Elder Care Funds, staff pension plans and other accounts.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the preparation of NYSNA’s annual LM-2 filing to the Department of Labor.
- Assist with closing monthly and year-end financial statements for NYSNA on a timely basis to be determined by the Director of Finance.
- Provide support for the preparation of the annual independent audits including preparation of all schedules and required reports.
- Prepare and process month end journal entries and reconcile fixed assets, prepaids expenses, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review employee expense reports for accuracy and compliance with organizational policies.
- Review and reconcile corporate credit card transactions and supporting receipts.
- Assist with budget preparation and related financial schedules.
- Organize and distribute meeting materials for the NYC & Westchester County Welfare Plans and the H+H Tuition and Child and Elder Care Funds.
- Perform account reconciliations, internal auditing functions and other general accounting duties as assigned.
- Support the accounting team by assisting with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and other accounting functions as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in accounting or finance, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of accounting processes
- Good communication skills, written and verbal
- Good time management and organization skills

Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000, depending upon education and relevant experience.
