Part-Time Organizing Staff
Based in the Cambridge / Boston, MA area
(partly remote)
The Harvard Graduate Students Union (HGSU), UAW Local 5118 seeks a part-time (15 hours per week) staff member to support the union's membership outreach and logistical coordination. This position is partly remote with some in-person attendance at meetings, trainings, and other events in the Cambridge/Boston area. Some evening and weekend availability may be required, based on union activities.
Responsibilities:
- Actively supporting member-led organizing efforts across a range of graduate programs, with a special emphasis on organizing efforts in liberal arts programs
- Coordinating and conducting member outreach via in-person, phone, and video meetings with current and future HGSU members
- Building and executing internal-facing education campaigns related to HGSU contract negotiations and, upon ratification of a new contract, contract changes related to compensation, benefits, and rights
- Attending weekly meetings with other HGSU staff, and Executive Board members
- Spearheading logistics for select union events
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and collaborate smoothly with other organizers
- Commitment to the value of labor unions and relational organizing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with labor unions, advocacy groups, or nonprofits
- Have been a United Auto Workers member in good standing for the last year
Terms of Employment:
This position is represented by UAW Staff United (USU) and includes an annual salary of $27,988, paid monthly, as well as healthcare (including dental and vision coverage), paid time off, and sick time. We are looking for someone who can start immediately, with the position lasting until June of 2027.
