Freelance Services Coordinator

Based in New York City, NY

 

The American Federation of Musicians of the US and Canada is accepting résumés for the position of Freelance Services Coordinator

Purpose:
This role supports AFM’s mission to address the workplace and economic conditions of musicians whose primary work falls outside traditional employer/employee structures—independent, self-producing, and “gig-worker” musicians.

The Freelance Services Coordinator will work alongside and report to the Director of Freelance Services and Membership Development 

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:

Industry & Union Knowledge

  • Basic understanding of the freelance/general business sector of the music industry.
  • Familiarity with the labor movement—or willingness and ability to learn quickly.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Comfortable interacting with Local officers, members, and freelance musicians, via both telephone and videoconference.

Professional Strengths

  • Self-motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm for exploring new ideas that support freelance musicians.
  • A service-oriented disposition suited to “help desk” or member-service environments.

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of web content management systems such as WordPress and/or various social media platforms and design tools, or the ability to acquire proficiency.
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities
In-Office Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Director in developing and implementing new programs and strategies for Locals.
  • Receive and prioritize communication with Local officers and staff, providing limited guidance and support for freelance-related initiatives.
  • Receive and manage applications for the AFM Freelance Co-Funding Program, supporting Locals in developing new services and outreach for independent musicians.
  • Support users of GoPro Hosting, AFM’s in-house web-hosting platform for Locals and members, specifically with account billing/maintenance, and receiving/assigning support tickets.
  • Data entry, limited user support, and potential design contribution for AFM’s web-based programs and digital tools serving the freelance sector.
  • Assist in administering the Booking Agency License Signatory Program, specifically in the receipt/management of new applications and various communication and administrative tasks during the annual renewal period.

Field Responsibilities

  • Potential, but not required, attendance at U.S. and Canadian trade shows and industry conferences relevant to independent and freelance musicians, as assigned by the Director
  • Possible attendance at AFM meetings and regional conferences as requested.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits: Competitive benefits package available
  • Location Requirement: Position is based in the New York City office
