Data Specialist - Contractor

Organization: Doctors Council SEIU 
Location: Remote (EST preferred) 
Duration: 6 Months
Salary: $45/hr

Role Overview:
The Data Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Data Systems Manager to maintain the integrity and usability of the union’s membership and organizing data. This role is critical for ensuring that information flowing between our different systems is accurate, standardized, and ready for high-level analysis.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys finding patterns, reconciling disparate lists of names, leveraging automation and AI-assisted tools to improve efficiency, and ensuring our organizing targets are accurately tracked as we fight to raise standards for healthcare workers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Cleaning and Standardization: Perform deep-cleans of spreadsheets, including fixing typos, standardizing a variety of fields formats, and preparing data for bulk SQL uploads.
• List Reconciliation: Use advanced matching techniques to identify duplicates and merge records accurately.
• Template Management: Populate and maintain Google Sheets templates that serve as the primary intake source for the union's SQL database and AppSheet backend.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct regular audits of imported data to ensure it meets the union's strict standards for accuracy and confidentiality.
• Post-Scrape Processing: Clean and verify data harvested from external sites to ensure it aligns with existing member/target profiles.
• AI-Enhanced Workflow Optimization: Utilize AI tools (e.g., for pattern detection, anomaly identification, and data normalization) to streamline repetitive data tasks and improve overall data quality and processing speed.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in data entry, data analysis, or a related field.
• Expert-level knowledge of formulas and an interest in using Apps Script for automation.
• Comfortable working with CSVs and manipulating large datasets; experience with SQL is a strong plus.
• Experience with R, Python, or Web Scraping (BeautifulSoup/Selenium).
• Familiarity with AI tools or platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, data enrichment APIs, or machine learning-assisted data cleaning tools) and an ability to apply them to improve data workflows is strongly preferred.
• A personal commitment to the goals of SEIU and the labor movement; ability to handle highly confidential worker data with total discretion.
• Ability to translate complex data issues into clear updates for the Data Systems Manager.
• Candidates should be prepared to describe specific, real-world examples of how they have used AI to improve data accuracy, efficiency, or scale.

Work Environment:
Remote role; candidate must have consistent availability to collaborate across all U.S. time zones (PST–EST) during standard business hours.
