International Representative / Field Organizer

Based in the Eastern, Midwestern, and Southern US Regions

 

Position: International Representative/Field Organizer 
Employment Date: ASAP
Locations: Eastern, Southern and Midwest US regions
These positions require considerable travel.
Salary Range: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 USD plus full employee benefit package: medical, dental, and vision plans and retirement program.

The American Federation of Musicians represents professional musicians playing in orchestras, bands, clubs, motion picture/television, and theater—both on Broadway and on tour throughout the United States and Canada in 177 local unions. The International Union seeks an International Representative/Organizer to help coordinate internal and external organizing regionally and with our locals.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Community and/or labor organizing experience.
  • Broad understanding of the critical issues and problems facing entertainment workers and unions nationally.
  • Commitment to social justice and movement building.
  • The ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • The ability to develop and lead organizing campaigns.
  • The ability to direct the day-to-day activities of other staff, member organizers, and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
This is not a 9 to 5 job. There will be considerable travel throughout the United States and Canada; each of the four positions will be regionally based. Some weekend work will be necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to develop organizing strategies as well as plan and help lead organizing campaigns. The AFM is dedicated to considering a broad array of candidates and is seeking applications from members of underrepresented groups. Bilingual Spanish candidates are preferred for U.S. postings and Bilingual French are preferred for Canadian postings.
