Job Description
Co-op Cincy is seeking a full-time Co-op Business Developer to join our growing team. Co-op Cincy works to overcome inequality of opportunity, mobility, and income by building a network of unionized worker-owned cooperative businesses. 

We are looking for a full-time Co-op Culture and Business Developer to help our growing network of Co-ops thrive. This person provides holistic technical support to cooperatives within the Co-op Cincy network to ensure they are fully functioning, sustainable businesses that embody cooperative culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing technical support to the leadership team and co-op as a whole:
    • Support co-ops to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for cooperatives, aligning them with broader economic trends and Co-op Cincy’s mission.
    • Mentor cooperative leaders in advanced business strategies, governance, and financial management to ensure sustainable growth.
  • Facilitating and providing support at co-op team meetings to help build co-op culture and business literacy, as well as helping them problem solve challenges and build up effective communication and open book management skills. 
  • Coordinate access to financial resources, including loans and grants, to support cooperative growth and development, including acting as the loan steward for your co-ops to access Seed Commons loans.
    • Loan Steward responsibilities include loan document preparation, writing the loan memo, helping coordinate the loan closing documents and disbursal of funds, and supporting the co-op with implementation of the loan project.
  • Serving on the board of co-ops, helping guide the co-op in best practices around co-op governance and adherence to values.
  • Serve as a key connector within the Co-op Cincy network, facilitating cross-cooperative collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinating the local co-op loan committee - convening the meetings, sending out minutes
  • Helping to coordinate participation in Co-op U, Co-op Cincy's startup development course.
  • Facilitating trainings on various co-op related subjects.

General

  • Helping respond to inquiries, requests for interviews, and interest in co-ops.
  • Representing Co-op Cincy publicly.
  • Reprioritizing work from time to time to support small staff. We work very collaboratively.
  • Communicate with development personnel to support grant reporting and writing
  • Helping Co-op Cincy continue to improve its processes, practices, and professional development.

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate would have some combination of the following qualifications:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) 
  • Ability to work nights and weekend hours if necessary
  • Ability to have frequent in-person meetings with co-ops in Metro Cincinnati
  • Experience in working on financial documents (e.g. projections, budgets, capital plans), and analyzing business opportunities and models (Business development experience)
  • Connected to cooperatives and the cooperative movement or interested in workplace democracy and cooperative structures
  • A clear, and coherent communicator in both written and oral forms
  • Personally well-organized and able to create and maintain appropriate online and physical files and communications systems
  • Experience with planning & facilitating workshops and meetings 
  • Democratic decision-making experience
  • Commitment to transformative and equity justice 
  • High level of organization and attention to detail, complemented by the ability to see the big picture

Salary: $50,000 – $58,000 with 20 paid vacation days and 11 paid holidays

Benefits: Healthcare, dental care and short-term disability are provided without a waiting period. Co-op Cincy pays 89.25% of the monthly premium towards individual plans and or 57.1% of family plans. Co-op Cincy completely covers short-term disability. These benefits are made possible through our affiliation with the United Steelworkers. 

Union membership with the United Steelworkers is a part of this job. $10 is deducted from your pay to join the union, and then a nominal amount is withheld from each paycheck. In addition to access to healthcare, union membership offers other benefits such as access to free college courses for you and your family.
