UMMAP Representative

United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals, AFT Local 6739, is seeking an experienced and energized Representative to join our innovative and progressive local union of healthcare professionals. We represent over 4800 allied health professionals at the University of Michigan. We are a new union and are looking to add to our growing staff as we work to transform healthcare for the benefit of our patients and our members. The Representative will work with our local leadership team and other staff to:

• Assist the union in grievances, arbitrations, and contract negotiations;
• Identify and develop local leaders and activists to handle union responsibilities, including contract enforcement;
• Engage members and increase participation in union activities; 
• Support and strengthen the work of union committees;
• Support and develop a strong worksite structure;
• Perform duties as assigned by local leadership to advance the mission of the organization, state federation, and national union; and
• Participate in building a stronger labor movement at UM and beyond.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience as a labor organizer or representative
• Independent project management skills
• Leadership development and training ability
• Ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
• Ability to listen actively, frame issues, and facilitate meetings
• Knowledge of organizing strategies, collective bargaining, and contract enforcement
• Knowledge of healthcare and labor issues
• Ability to write and speak effectively
• General computer literacy and proficiency in basic data management
• Ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, including insurance

Compensation:
Salary scale beginning at $77,000, with excellent health, vision, and dental benefits.
