Political Action Committee (PAC) Director

Based in Austin, TX

 

Fair Shot Texas PAC (FST PAC) is a Texas general-purpose political action committee under the guidance of the Texas AFL-CIO. Through direct voter contact, the PAC is focused on electing candidates in Texas who will advance a pro-worker, pro-working family agenda. 

FST PAC is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Political Action Committee (PAC) Director. The PAC Director will lead and execute the organization’s electoral program in Texas, overseeing fundraising, field operations, and mail, digital, and email outreach. This role requires strategic planning, program development, and managing staff to achieve electoral and advocacy goals. The PAC Director will also cultivate relationships with funders and stakeholders to ensure program sustainability and effectiveness.

The PAC Director’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Leading strategic planning for electoral cycles, including pre-election preparation, execution, and post-election analysis
  • Communicating frequently with union affiliates/funding partners to provide status updates, share programmatic information, and request feedback
  • Coordinating directly with targeted campaigns as well as allied partners before, during, and after program implementation
  • Setting benchmarks and performance metrics for each campaign phase, ensuring accountability and impact
  • Monitoring political landscapes, polling data, and emerging trends to inform program strategy
  • Developing proposals, reports, and presentations to communicate impact and funding needs
  • Building and maintaining relationships with allied organizations, political committees, and community leaders
  • Developing and executing an aggressive electoral program that may include door-to-door canvassing operations in several regions of Texas, direct mail in targeted districts, and a robust digital program
  • Raising funding needed to execute and expand programmatic work
  • Managing and maintaining the PAC’s budget with the aid of the Operations Director
  • Working with consultants to achieve direct mail and digital program goals
  • Directing field program partners/vendors in hiring and maintaining canvassing staff, as well as monitoring data/quality control metrics and ensuring that daily voter contact goals are met
  • Attending canvass launches and participating in door-to-door activity, as needed 
  • Managing PAC staff and developing clear job duties, roles, and expectations
  • Other duties and responsibilities required for the implementation of a successful program 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Highly motivated self-starter, capable of working independently within the context of a plan in order to drive initiatives forward and achieve ambitious goals 
  • An interest in developing campaign skills and a deeper understanding of the labor movement 
  • Texas residency and Texas political experience preferred 
  • At least three election cycles working on campaigns in roles with relevant experience
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, meet tight timelines, and manage multiple competing priorities at the same time
  • Experience with and ability to navigate VAN and MiniVAN and a desire to expand existing knowledge and skills
  • Strong writing ability and excellent communication, time-management and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in political fundraising and experience creating and successfully implementing a fundraising plan 
  • Ability to work long and extended hours when needed and willingness to travel as needed, as well as the ability to work in person during hours that reflect the needs of the programmatic work

This position will be located in Austin, Texas and is an in-person position. Occasional travel will be required to perform the duties of this position. The salary for this position is $90,000 and carries a very competitive benefits package, including 100% employer-paid health, vision and dental insurance and robust retirement benefits.
