POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Membership is responsible for carrying out activities of the membership Department related to, dues compliance, benefit programs of the Association, oversight of staff administering benefit programs, maintenance of computerized information processing needs, recruitment, retention and accurate membership files of the Association. The salary range for this position is $160,000 – $179,000.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures related to membership, the membership records and contract dues compliance for the Association in collaboration with the appropriate MNA staff and in compliance with labor laws.
- Maintains systems for proper accounting of membership, membership dues received and the billing of delinquent payers.
- Directs and oversees work of member services staff. Assures balanced posting and reconciling of all dues received.
- Directs communication with employer personnel and payroll departments, MNA representatives and MNA staff concerning union direct, payroll deduction, membership updates and deletions and problems encountered.
- Provides information on membership trends and statistics to Director of Finance and Executive Director for use in long-range planning and recruitment strategies. Prepares reports/feedback of trends/tracking.
- Works in collaboration with IS Department in meeting needs of Membership Department.
- Maintains systems for accurate maintenance of membership records of all units of the Association.
- Develops, implements, promotes, and evaluates membership strategies for the Association.
- Develops membership orientation including packets for bargaining units to utilize. Effectively works with Labor Program and bargaining unit leadership to meet member benefit and dues compliance needs.
- Maintains interdepartmental relationship/communication as related to membership and member services/policies and provides membership services to and through all departments, structural units, and regions.
- Monitors staff providing member benefit to program(s) for the Association. Directs communication of member benefits and processing of requests for benefits information to appropriate staff.
- Works collaboratively with labor staff relative to recruitment and retention issues of unit members including mandatory enforcement.
- Directs and oversees the Association’s Board and Resource File of potential members interested in appointment to Board Directors/Committee/Congresses and representation to relevant outside groups.
- Establishes priorities relative to own workload, department, and Association activities.
- Establishes Membership (and IS Department) budget for recommendation to the Finance Committee
- Reviews all Association minutes in regard to activities and impact on recruitment and retention of membership.
- Participates in development of publication of written materials that communicate the role of MNA.
- Provides staffing for Nominations and Elections Committee.
- Carries out any additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICIATIONS:
- RN degree in relevant area preferred (equivalent career experience considered).
- Experience with iMIS preferred.
- Experience with membership at other entities or groups preferred.
