The Milwaukee Area Labor Council (MALC) is looking to add to our team. MALC is the Central Labor Council for the Milwaukee Area, an umbrella organization for local labor unions with a long-standing relationship with the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County. We are looking for an individual who is team-oriented and enthusiastic about making Milwaukee a better place to work and live.

United Way and the labor movement have enjoyed a beneficial and long-lasting partnership that has engaged hundreds of thousands of working people, union members and non-members alike, in programs that benefit communities across the country. This partnership has assisted millions of workers in their time of need while simultaneously working for structural improvements.
The United Way has an increased focus on developing sustainable solutions to the problems facing working families and communities around the country and creating programs that bring diverse organizations together to advance the common good and address the root causes of social and economic inequality. Funding raised through the coordination of labor giving helps support these organizations providing services in the greater Milwaukee area.
The United Way and the labor movement share a common vision of prosperous, inclusive, diverse and safe communities where every member of the community has access to good jobs with fair wages, productive work opportunities, quality healthcare, and affordable housing. The AFL-CIO Labor Liaison supports all functions of United Way and AFL-CIO partnership and the mutual interests of both organizations by:
- Bridging United Way and Labor communities;
- Fostering strong relationships with labor unions to advance mutual impact goals and ensure successful United Way campaigns;
- Identifying opportunities for the United Way and labor to collaborate on jointly developed programs and key initiatives that benefit local communities;
- Building strategic partnerships with community allies and implementing jointly developed programs around the issues of income, education and health;
Fundraising
- Develop and support annual fund development campaign based on established strategies that engage unions and members to ensure successful workplace giving campaigns
- Develop, in conjunction with UWGMWC staff for assigned division, financial goals in keeping with the overall campaign objectives
- Learn and implement effective engagement and relationship-building for your accounts to clearly demonstrate the value of the partnership between organized labor in Milwaukee and United Way
- Develop plans to engage unionized employees within UW corporate partners for better campaigns
- Implement participation recognition programs and materials
- Assist in selection, recruitment, and training of fundraising volunteers
Volunteer Recruitment and Training
- Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies on a year-round basis that enable United Way and the labor movement to achieve Community Impact goals of mutual interest.
Administrative Functions
- Participate in assigned United Way meetings and events
- Ensure that accurate, up to date information is maintained in the database for assigned campaigns
- Attend monthly Labor Council meetings (held in the evening) and staff meetings
- Participate in education and training programs, conferences and conventions of the AFL-CIO, Labor Council and United Way on topics of mutual interest
Qualifications:
- Dynamic interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Self-motivated individual able to work independently, while contributing to a strong team effort.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft office suite.
- Willingness to work evenings or weekends, when needed.
- Familiarity with unions and labor movement structure a plus.
- Willing to travel In metro Milwaukee area (driver’s license and dependable vehicle required.
This is a full-time salaried position of 40 hours per week paying $36,000 – 41,000 based on relevant experience. The position has historically been a union-represented one. MALC offers excellent health benefits including dental, and a retirement plan.
