SEIU Texas unites more than 7,000 healthcare workers, airport workers, and janitors in Corpus Christi, El Paso, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston who have secured better wages, benefits and working conditions through their union. We are an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union, which is over 2 million members strong who are united by their belief in the dignity and worth of workers. SEIU TX is hiring temporary Membership Growth Specialists in Houston. These will be full time temporary positions not to extend beyond the end of 2025. Membership Growth Specialists will engage with workers represented by the union who are not yet union members, to explain the benefits and provide the opportunity for these workers to sign up and become full members of the union.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with unions and a strong commitment to social justice, with preference given to past members of SEIU Texas and to bilingual applicants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Engaging in organizing conversations with workers to sign up new union members.
• Explaining the benefits of union membership.
• Explaining payroll deductions for union dues and voluntary political contributions for union members.
• Taking detailed notes from worker conversations, and passing along important issues that may need followup from a union representative.
• Note that the majority of worker outreach will be conducted via phone calls, but there may also be some in person conversations either at worker meetings or through home visits.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to use a computer.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Previous phonebanking experience is preferred.
• Ability to stay on task and meet goals.
• Adaptable, ability to shift to meet program needs

This position pays $20 per hour.
