Union Organizer / Staff Representative
Based in Hartford, CT
CSEA SEIU Local 2001 is accepting résumés for the position of Union Organizer/Staff Representative. Local 2001 has empowered public employees in Connecticut for over 80 years. We are a strong voice for public service, with over 20,000 members throughout the state. CSEA is part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the largest and fastest-growing labor unions in the United States.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in executing the program of the Union to improve the lives of workers
- Identify, engage, and develop workplace leaders
- Act as chief advocate in grievance, arbitration, and other hearings
- Identify workplace issues and create programs to address them
- Lead contract bargaining
- Visit worksites, educate members, build participation in union activities
- Develop and implement training programs to foster leadership skills among members, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of future union leaders.
- Actively recruit and mentor rank-and-file members for leadership roles and responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Labor, community, political, or other organizing experience
- Familiarity with union grievance procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willing to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
- An automobile and a valid driver's license
- Working knowledge of relevant labor law is preferred
- Experience acting as a lead negotiator for labor contracts is preferred
- Commitment to empowering workers through organizing
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required
- Strong digital and technological literacy
