Program Director

The Central Coast Labor Council, AFL-CIO seeks a Program Director based in Ventura, Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo County. The position requires travel throughout the region. 

DESCRIPTION
The Central Coast Labor Council, AFL-CIO is seeking a dedicated and motivated candidate to serve as the Program Director primarily for our work through the California Workplace Program Program. This position will be instrumental in anchoring our efforts throughout our three county region by coordinating Program events, developing programs, and building strong organizational relationships within the community and with labor organizations.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Program Director will:

  • Identify community needs and develop innovative programs that support worker interests and organizational goals
  • Lead the day-to-day operations including the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and initiatives that support workers and the community
  • Organize, promote, and facilitate outreach events aimed at educating workers about their rights, resources, and available services
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance event effectiveness and reach
  • Maintain and collect the data and deliverables and complete all required reporting 

Additionally, the Program Director will be expected to develop and maintain positive, productive working relationships with community organizations, labor unions, and key stakeholders such as the UCSB Community Labor Center, Mixteco Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP), Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE), San Luis Obispo County Child Abuse Prevention Council, Employment Development Department (EDD), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other partners throughout Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, as well as engage with workers and community members to mobilize support for labor rights and related social justice issues. 

The Program Director will implement organizing strategies that empower workers and promote collective action. They must be willing to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate community needs and events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination, organizing outreach events, and community engagement.
  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs. Proficiency in using technology and social media for outreach and engagement purposes.
  • Strong knowledge of labor rights, social justice issues, and community organizing principles.
  • Good analytical skills to understand how worker’s needs can be addressed through the development and delivery of training programs.
  • Strong reading, verbal, written, and presentation ability. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse community members and organizations.
  • Basic computer literacy skills including Microsoft office and familiarity with database and reporting software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.

This position is full-time and includes paid vacation, competitive benefits including healthcare, a defined-benefit pension, 401k and a starting salary range of $80,000 – $90,000.
