Contracts & Compliance Coordinator

Based in Connecticut

 

The Connecticut State University American Association of University Professors (CSU-AAUP) is the labor union for some 3,100 members at the four regional Connecticut State Universities: Central, Eastern, Southern and Western. CSU-AAUP union members are coaches, counselors, librarians, and teaching faculty, who fight together to advance faculty capacity to govern their own workplace, improve working conditions, and expand access to quality public higher education.

We are hiring a full-time Contracts & Compliance Coordinator, based in Connecticut. Under the direction of CSU-AAUP leadership, they will be responsible for management of all aspects of contract compliance including grievances, representation, and negotiations.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors management of system office and four universities for contractual compliance 
  • Prepares and delivers system-wide grievances and assists with chapter grievances and potential disciplinary actions
  • Assists with arbitration hearings
  • Coordinates four-chapter grievance committee
  • Participates in preparation for, and conduct of, contract negotiations
  • Acts as point-person for information about and problems with member health Insurance and pensions
  • Provides training for officers and rank-and-file members in the Contract, contract compliance, and grievance procedures, and creates plan for education of members
  • Maintains accurate records of grievances, disciplinary actions, contract negotiations, letters of Agreement and MOUs 
  • Monitors policies, activities, & initiatives of management, and developments in higher education, labor unions, and relevant local, state, and national politics to assist in strategic planning.
  • Assists Organizing staff to integrate contract issues into all aspects of organizing, including resolving problems through member mobilization and other non-legal strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Experience, knowledge, and skill in interpreting collective bargaining agreements
  • Commitment to collective bargaining and union representation
  • Driven and self-motivated; able to work independently as well as under supervised direction
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze information and frame issues, and to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing across audiences
  • Ability to travel in Connecticut and work at all four CSU campuses

  • Commitment to Higher Education and experience working in a Higher Education institution
  • Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles 

Salary and Benefits:
This position is in the CSU-AAUP staff bargaining unit, and its basic conditions of work will conform to that collective bargaining agreement, which is currently being renegotiated. CSU-AAUP offers paid time off, health, vision and dental insurance, a healthcare savings account, and an employer funded 401(k) retirement plan. Starting salary is in the range of $70,000 to $80,000, depending on relevant experience.
