Political and Legislative Representative

The National Air Traffic Controllers Association, AFL-CIO ("NATCA"), the labor union representing federal-sector and private-sector air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals, has an immediate opening for a Political and Legislative Representative in its Washington, D.C. headquarters office.
The Political and Legislative Representative is primarily responsible for: (1) educating members of Congress, congressional staff, and others on NATCA’s positions on legislative issues and responding to congressional inquiries concerning NATCA’s positions; (2) drafting congressional testimony, issue papers, talking points, letters, and other information; (3) working with coalitions and other groups to advance NATCA’s legislative agenda; (4) monitoring congressional activity and providing NATCA’s officers, legislative committee, and membership with updates on legislative activities; (5) assisting with the implementation of NATCA’s grassroots program; (6) assisting with the operation of the NATCA Political Action Committee (PAC), in compliance with FEC regulations; (7) representing NATCA at fundraisers, “meet and greets,” union meetings, and other events; (8) attending hearings, mark-ups, briefings, and confirmations, as assigned; (9) assisting the NATCA Public Affairs Department with information for newsletter articles, press releases, and other tasks; and (10) working with NATCA’s legislative committee to plan and organize an annual “NATCA in Washington” event.
To qualify for this position, an applicant must have extensive federal legislative experience on Capitol Hill and relevant lobbying experience. Applicants should also have substantial experience in hands-on management of legislative activities, proven ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with members of Congress and congressional staff, excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and a strong ability to work closely with others and under tight deadlines. Knowledge of or experience with aviation issues is preferred.
The salary range for this position is $91,601 to $147,026 depending on experience.
