The Collier County Education Association is the collective voice of Collier County's professional educators and as the community's staunchest advocate for the improvement of our district's public education system. Today, CCEA now represents more than 2,000 educators employed by Collier County Public Schools.

CCEA’s office staff members are also responsible for serving the classroom and office assistants within the school system represented by the Collier County Association of Educational Office and Classroom Assistant Personnel (CCAEOCAP). 

The Collier County Education Association is a local option affiliate of the Florida Education Association (FEA). CCEA and FEA are affiliated with the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and the AFL-CIO.

Position Summary: The Service Unit Director reports to the CCEA President and supports the day-to-day operations and programs of the Collier County Education Association, including collective bargaining agreements covering instructional and non-instructional staff within CCPS. The Service Unit Director provides organizing and collective bargaining support and member rights (potential discipline) support for members. Collective bargaining support includes labor relations meetings, grievance consultations and advocacy, bargaining trainings, and arbitration representation. 

Additionally, the Service Unit Director provides consultation and support to CCEA leaders and members in the areas of membership organizing, membership development, member advocacy, bargaining, collective bargaining agreement administration, grievance processes, organizational development to support volunteer teams, internal and external communications around organizing, labor relations and worksite issues, governmental and political advocacy, member and human rights, and other areas of interest or concern to the organization and its members. The successful candidate must possess the ability to successfully establish and maintain professional relationships, efficiently manage multiple high-priority projects, and effectively navigate politically sensitive issues.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A master’s, doctoral, or other advanced degree is highly desired.
  • At least two years professional experience in unionized education (i.e., member leader or union staff member or other professional experience), including training and involvement with collective bargaining, member representation, and member advocacy.
  • Professional union organizing experience is required.
  • Professional experience with political advocacy is highly desired.
  • Professional experience working with elected boards, councils, or committees is highly desired.
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain professional relationships is an essential requirement for this position.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple high-priority projects is an essential requirement for this position.
  • Ability to thrive and maintain professionalism in high-profile/high-pressure situations is an essential requirement for this position.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the school district for building meetings and member rights matters is required.

Service Unit Director General Responsibilities:

  1. Acknowledge and support the advancement of CCEA’s vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  2. Identify, contribute to, and support new opportunities to advance CCEA’s vision, mission, and strategic goals in the local community and the state.
  3. Perform all work assignments in a manner that effectively and efficiently utilizes CCEA resources.
  4. Manage, contribute to, and support the development and implementation of CCEA programs and services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assist with all CCEA program implementation including communications, training, employee relations, instructional and professional development, membership promotion, political concerns, legislation, labor relations, etc.
  • Jointly serve as spokesman with the CCEA President
  • Work to build effective relationship with CCPS Board of Education and Administration
  • Coordinate and assist with local bargaining and contract enforcement for both bargaining units.
  • Provides research from state and other local bargaining units in reference to negotiations with school district
  • Assists CCEA Executive Board in maximizing member engagement and building the capacity of the local
  • Participating in regional and state programs as directed by CCEA Exec. Board
  • Develop and maintain a hands-on relationship with district Labor Relations
  • Meets regularly with Superintendent and brings forward CCEA issues
  • Assist CCEA President with program evaluation
  • Provide services to CCEA leaders as required
  • Plan, participate and present representative training
  • Conduct regular visits to school sites
  • Assist leaders in developing organizing plans
  • Prepare preliminary CCEA budget and manage finances with assistance of Office Manager and bookkeeper
  • Manage CCEA political action/legislative initiatives 
  • Assist with program evaluation
  • Makes recommendations to CCEA Executive Board on office equipment and furnishings
  • Coordinates and assist with issues with Lone Oak Association issues
  • Assists with rental agreements between CCEA and tenants, including leases
  • Maintain a positive relationship with other organizations and groups
  • Maintain a continuous positive relationship with local leaders and Rep. council members within the unit
  • Have general co-responsibility for all CCEA communications
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CCEA President or designee
  • Manage annual CCEA elections

Compensation & Benefits: The salary for this position is determined by the negotiated agreement between the Collier County Education Association and the Collier Staff Organization based on relevant experience. Salary range: $57,762 to $119,442 dependent on qualifications and experience. CCEA provides medical, life, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance to its employees with no monthly employee premium. Additionally, CCEA provides retirement, vacation leave, sick leave, and paid holidays.
