About the IUPAT
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) represents a growing force of men and women in the United States and Canada who work in the Finishing Trades – Industrial & Commercial Painting, Drywall Finishing, Glazing & Glass Work, and Floor Covering Installation, and many more successful careers in the construction industry and public sector. The IUPAT DC 77 is committed to representing, building power with, and fighting alongside all workers in our industry, union and non-union alike.

Organizer Responsibilities 

  • Build one-on-one relationships with workers through outreach efforts that include job site visits, house calls, etc. 
  • Work with existing and potential union members in developing a worker organizing committee 
  • Regularly engages contractors, engineers, architects, and end-users to strengthen the IUPAT presence in the market and maintain labor standards;
  • Assist in recruiting and developing a workforce to meet labor demands 
  • Assist with all District Council 77 organizing campaigns
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating large actions such as pickets, rallies, marches, and strikes
  • Assist leaders in mobilizing for union actions, community actions, and campaigns through activities such as phone-banking, leafleting, online outreach, site visits, home visits, etc.
  • Assist with outreach to engage student organizations, community groups, and other allies
  • Perform administrative tasks as necessary, including but not limited to maintaining databases, producing materials, and correspondence.
  • Any other duties/tasks as assigned by the Director of Organizer and BM/S-T.

Candidate characteristics

  • Demonstrates commitment to union democracy, member-driven organizing, and marketing of our union.
  • Bilingual is preferred (Spanish and English). Having someone who is bilingual and literate in both English and Spanish is helpful, but not mandatory. 
  • Must be outgoing, have a positive attitude, and follow directions
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work some weeknights and weekends
  • Willingness to respond promptly to e-mails, phone calls, and other forms of communication
  • Willingness to represent and organize all IUPAT DC 77 crafts. 

Salary and Benefits
Salary is competitive. Health and vision coverage are provided, along with paid personal time off and sick leave.

Requirements
We will be hosting a 3-day Organizing Bootcamp in Pascagoula, Mississippi on Friday, July 11, 2025 through Sunday, July 13, 2025. You MUST attend all 3-days of this event to be considered.
