POSITION SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES: Working under the direction of the Director of Contracts and Enforcement, this coordinator will lead the establishment of USWW’s new Contracts and Enforcement Department.  Our goal is to apply strategic organizing principles and strategies to use the enforcement of union contracts and employment law to build worker leadership and power on the shop floor.

The Contracts & Enforcement Coordinator will train, develop and lead a team of staff with expertise in sexual harassment, wage theft campaigns, contract enforcement, arbitrations and labor law to support USWW field staff in all divisions with strategic enforcement campaigns and complex or sensitive cases; build out online tools and technology to support enforcement and engage members; develop systems to track and prioritize the Union’s field enforcement work statewide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Graduation from an accredited college or university in relevant field or equivalent experience in labor & community organizing that would provide for the following knowledge skills & abilities.

  • Previous Work Experience: Experience in strategic organizing, using union contracts and/or employment law to build power with people of color and immigrant from low-wage communities and developing training in these areas.
  • Previous Leadership: Developing popular education programs and protocols, leading and training organizers and worker leaders, establishing new and creative systems for building worker power.
  • Proven commitment to social and economic justice and improving the lives of working people.
  • Experience working on strategic campaigns with a labor union or non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of union organizing practice and principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in fast-paced and diverse team environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey information and ideas both verbally and in writing across audiences.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, social media platforms, databases & teleconferencing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel to other work sites in California, ability to work extended and irregular hours, and work remotely
  • Valid drivers’ license, use of a car for work, and specified automobile insurance coverage are mandatory
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (written & verbal) is highly preferred.
