ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Civic Empowerment Education Fund (AAPI FORCE-EF) is a statewide network that builds progressive AAPI power through campaign organizing, policy advocacy, and integrated voter engagement. We provide capacity building support, coaching, and strategic planning to organizers and organizations with the intention of building powerful AAPI voter mobilization organizations across California.

POSITION OVERVIEW
AAPIs for Civic Empowerment Education Fund seeks a Senior Researcher to lead polling and analysis of the political opinions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, to inform strategy and tactics of electoral and legislative campaigns, and support our network of organizations in conducting investigative research to advance long term structural change on behalf of low-income and working class Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, analytical, strategic, and able to translate complex political issues for grassroots community members. Applicants should have an intimate knowledge and familiarity with working in AAPI communities, have a grounding in intersectionality and solidarity organizing, and can capably work across differences. This position reports to the Executive Director. This position is shared with AAPIs for Civic Empowerment Education Fund, and with our sister entity AAPIs for Civic Empowerment, a separate 501(c)4.

POSITION SUMMARY
Polling and Analysis

  • Lead implementation of research projects to better understand the opinions, motivations, and demographics of AAPI community members and voters.
  • Supervise staff and consultants to implement new polling projects.
  • Convene network member organizations to co-create and inform polling projects.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on published quantitative and qualitative research data relevant to voting, community engagement, and economic justice issues.

Campaign Strategy Development

  • Lead processes with staff and network member organizations to complete landscape and power analysis.
  • Conduct research and analysis on field, legislative, and narrative campaign targets to advise strategies and tactics.
  • Work with field outreach team to conduct post-election analysis and evaluation of direct voter outreach and communications campaigns.
  • Support overall power-building strategy development in consultation with organizational leadership.

Research

  • Write research reports and develop infographics, other data dissemination tools.
  • Present research findings to community, governmental, philanthropy, media, and other audiences.
  • Work program staff and steering committee leadership to develop research priorities to augment power-building efforts across California’s AAPI communities.
  • Supervise research staff and interns.

Organizational Leadership

  • Grant, lobbying, and compliance reporting.
  • Manages, in collaboration with senior management staff, relevant internal alliance meetings and processes.
  • Supports staff- and coalition-wide events and meetings.
  • Supports collective fundraising efforts.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong familiarity with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities
  • Commitment to racial, economic, gender and environmental justice, bottom-up social change and building social movements
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) working with community-based organizations, coalition building, voter engagement, and political campaigns.
  • Ability to build strong relations of trust and mutual respect with a broad range of constituents and stakeholders
  • Flexibility and agility to respond to dynamic conditions
  • Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and project management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to tailor messages to varying audiences
  • Can utilize qualitative and quantitative social science research methods
  • Experience working large data sets, including voter files and contact databases

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position can be based anywhere in CA. If based in the Bay Area, the hired staff will be expected to commit to a hybrid schedule with 2 days working at our physical office in Oakland and 3 days at home.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
This position is being offered as a full-time, exempt position. While this position may be based anywhere in California, 4-5 meetings per year will be held in Oakland where the main office is located. In addition, travel within California is expected and will take place at least once every 2 months to visit our partners in their regions.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
$90,000 to $100,000 per year with retirement, health, dental, vision, paid vacation, paid parental leave, and paid sabbatical.
