POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is an open, interdisciplinary search for a Unit 18 Lecturer in Labor Studies. The Minor in Labor Studies is administered by the History Department and interdisciplinary in scope. Applicants from a wide range of disciplines in the Humanities, Social Sciences and related fields are welcome. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.

The Minor incorporates a variety of courses in in the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as an internship that prepares students for various careers as well as advanced graduate study. UCSB is seeking a Lecturer to teach courses that satisfy the core requirements of the Minor and to contribute to an expansion of the Labor Studies curriculum as part of the establishment of a new Central Coast Community Labor Project at UCSB. In addition to teaching Labor Studies courses, the lecturer will work under the direction of the Community Labor Project Executive Director and a faculty advisory committee to facilitate important curriculum development tasks, such as:

• Course development, including a new Introduction to Labor Studies course;
• Working with community/labor partners to expand upon the internship and related experiential learning components of the minor;
• Developing protocols for establishing and communicating learning objectives and entering into agreements with internship providers regarding student supervision and mentoring;
• Creating evaluation protocols for the minor.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

• Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent) except the dissertation at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start):

• PhD in History, Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, Chicanx/Latinx Studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, Feminist Studies, Global Studies or related fields is required by the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications

• Applicants with a PhD and one year teaching experience are preferred.
