Member Engagement Coordinator

32BJ’s political program is rooted in a strong commitment to engaging members in all levels of the political process. This participation takes the form of member volunteerism and leadership in electoral and legislative campaigns (both volunteer and paid); participation in political education activities including the Social Justice Leadership Academy; and encouraging members to participate in the American Dream Fund (ADF), the Union’s PAC.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
Reporting directly to the Political Director, the Member Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing programs to increase union member participation in the political work of the Union.

Additionally, the member engagement coordinator will:

  • Oversee the Social Justice Leadership Academy, including recruitment, training for facilitators, and monitoring success of program
  • Work closely with the Political Department staff to develop training and engagement programs for union members and organizing workers
  • Oversee Union-wide ADF drive including: training, goal setting with district leaders, establishing accountability metrics and on-going communication on program and strategy
  • Develop Political Club best-practices, and work with district political staff to implement these best practices where clubs exist or are created
  • Develop orientation and onboarding trainings for Member Political Organizers (MPOs) when recruited for political brigades
  • Work with the communications department to create and maintain ongoing Member Communications calendar (including web, mail, phone and more about the union’s political program)
  • Develop an electoral pipeline program for members to run for public political office, including candidate training

Qualifications include:

  • The successful candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience engaging workers around political action in either a union or a volunteer-based organization.
  • The applicant should have strong organizational abilities, pay attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to shifting demands.
  • Strong writing and communications skills, with experience communicating complex issues to diverse audiences;
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus;
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint, Excel and other programs used to create training tools.

Compensation:
The salary for this position is $77,570 annualized. Our benefits package includes employer-paid medical and dental plans for fulltime staff and their qualified dependents, a 401k and a pension plan.
