Agreements Technician (Database)
Data & Contracts Department

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is looking to hire an Agreements Technician to work in its Data & Contracts Department. The Data & Contracts Department offers technology solutions to help our local affiliates use their resources more efficiently. Created as part of the International Union’s commitment to increasing union membership, the Data & Contracts Department serves the local affiliates and Teamsters Trade Divisions/Conferences as a key source of statistical and agreements information. The department maintains the largest contract database of any union in North America, with more than 350,000 current and expired Teamster labor agreements.

Our Agreements Technicians perform duties necessary for inputting, updating, and retrieving information from the contract database; conduct quality control on work; and train new Agreements Technicians. The major duties and responsibilities of the position are included below.

  • Sorts, reviews, and prepares collective bargaining agreements for research, data entry and scanning.
  • Verifies and obtains information pertaining to the collective bargaining agreements collection through the use of directories, classification schedules, online resources, etc., and codes selected signatories, agreement clauses and economic data.
  • Enters agreement information into the Contracts Database and updates all corresponding tables where appropriate.
  • Performs routine maintenance of individual’s computer applications and coordinates with the Information Systems Department to update application or correct problems as needed.
  • Attaches appropriate summary sheets to collective bargaining agreements, proofreads, and makes corrections, as required.
  • Interacts with Information Systems Department to monitor scanning application, process, and products.
  • Reviews select agreements and coding entered by other Agreements Technicians and Information Systems Department during scanning process for quality control purposes.
  • Monitors separate databases that reflect local union information, mergers, revocation of charters and establishment of new local unions and administers corresponding changes in agreements collection, as needed.
  • Maintains the national master and historic agreements database.
  • Implements changes to industry identification within various division agreements.
  • Interacts with IBT Affiliate Bookkeeping Systems Department and coordinates with supervisor in preparation of International Audit Schedule 17 forms for submitting to IBT Accounting Department; updates all contract files for the local union; and prints, reviews, and updates contract list for audit.
  • Monitors compliance with constitutional requirement for collective bargaining agreement submissions.
  • Retrieves agreements and other supporting documentation using various archival methods, including paper, film, and digital materials, as required.
  • Monitors online submission portal for any technical issues in the uploading, submission, or consistency of data; and reports any issues to supervisor.
  • Develops, maintains, and applies a broad knowledge of a variety of procedures for acquiring, analyzing and indexing agreements and related material via manual and computerized methods. Uses judgment and experience to make determinations when research data is not available.
  • Coordinates with the Out-of-Work Benefits staff pertaining to the employer for member strike benefits to retrieve information as needed.
  • Works with local unions to identify employer relationships, trade divisions, and other information in or related to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Updates data in Access database regularly (quality control) and develops answers to pension requests and contract requests for local unions.
  • Runs the local union reports and prepares reports for the annual letter (coordinating data entry for the annual letter). Prepares annual contract letters to local unions.
  • Reviews the Roster of Employers Reports as they are sent in from local unions for Trade Division discrepancies.
  • Keeps current with and conducts independent research to confirm changes to corporate structures within major employers (mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, etc.).
  • Searches the Contracts Database for employers, divisions, and other categories to assist IBT trade divisions and departments.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. One years’ experience in a research/library/database environment required. Ability to key data at a minimum rate of 35 WPM required.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and data retrieval skills.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Proven capacity to successfully manage several assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to understand multivariate classification systems.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining a high level of quality.

Selected candidates will be required to sit for skills and knowledge testing.

The starting salary ranges from $54,735 to $59,850. The IBT offers a robust benefits package including a 100%-employer paid health & welfare plan, vacation & sick leave, pension, FICA reimbursement, and 401(k).
