Field Representative / Organizer

Based in San Diego, CA

 

An immediate opening is available for an experienced Organizer position. UNITE HERE Local 30 is a progressive labor organization. We represent over 6,000 workers who work at hotels and restaurants in San Diego. Our goal and commitment are to develop leadership among the members, to organize and to build a strong union based on membership involvement and participation. Local 30 has a proud history of community involvement and a strong commitment to improving working conditions, wages, and benefits.

The position entails irregular hours including work in the evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Represent members in grievance procedures.
• Organize members to participate in picket lines, rallies and demonstrations.
• Develop leadership among the members.
• Conduct union committee meetings and orientations.

Qualifications

• Experience as a union representative and/or organizer preferred.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work with a diverse, multi-cultural membership.
• Ability to speak one of the following languages preferred: Spanish or Tagalog.
• Commitment to organize the unorganized.
• Willing to work long hours and weekends as needed.
• This position requires a car – please specify if you have one and a driver’s license.

Salary and Benefits

• $59,000/year starting salary.
• Outstanding benefit package, including complete individual and family health insurance, prescription coverage, dental and vision insurance, pension, in addition to paid time off.
