Position Details:
The position supports achieving NEA’s institutional objectives through its Center for Organizing and Affiliate Support (C4OAS) by partnering with NEA affiliates to develop and execute organizing campaigns that promote and strengthen public education and increase affiliate membership and educator and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with NEA affiliates to develop strategic organizing plans that advance NEA’s mission, vision, and strategic goals, with an emphasis on increasing overall membership density and affiliate organizing capacity.
  • Assist affiliates in the implementation of strategic organizing plans that may include running the following campaigns: majority status and/or recognition, first contract, external or scratch organizing campaigns.
  • Provide ongoing campaign support and guidance, including training on campaign tools and tactics.
  • Partner with affiliates to develop an NEA organizing framework and model to support winning recognition and first contract campaign.
  • Support NEA in understanding how it can better support the development and execution of affiliate strategic organizing campaigns.
  • Assist UniServ Managers in building a sustainable culture or organizing in their affiliate and through their UniServ Director workforce and support affiliate management and staff in building organizing skills to run strategic organizing campaigns.
  • Serve as a point of contact for affiliates in navigating NEA programs and support, and in advising other NEA Centers on affiliate needs and capacities.
  • Assist in the targeting, oversight and evaluation of C4O grants and field staff support to affiliates
  • Manage assigned staff, including developing and evaluating performance expectations and supporting ongoing professional development
  • Drive the creation of an organizing culture within NEA and its affiliates.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Relevant graduate degree and/or certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and persuasively communicate verbally and in writing complex ideas and content to a diverse of NEA stakeholders.
  • Must be detail-oriented with a proven record of being able to draft high quality and accurate content and materials.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing innovative and creative solutions to meet current organizing realities and conditions.
  • Proven ability to manage complex relationships at the council, state, local, and national levels with elected leaders, members, staff, and management that lead to transformational change and growth.
  • Familiarity with NEA’s membership categories used to devise organizing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading national organizing programs across membership categories with data-driven accountability.
  • Success in managing staff and leading both NEA and SEA interdisciplinary teams to holistically drive an organizing culture that can deliver on association strategic priorities.
  • Ability to develop and execute nationally coordinated campaigns that dynamically align to local and state affiliate priorities in order to meet scale.
  • Demonstrated personnel management expertise; the ability to delegate responsibly, prioritize work activities, monitor progress, coach towards success, and ensure accountability.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to think strategically and facilitate dialogue for shared results.
  • Effective skills in project planning and financial management.
  • Ability to travel extensively (approximately 100 to 120 overnights per year).
