The Seafarers International Union is hiring a communications professional who’ll be based in Camp Springs, Maryland. We promote the U.S. Merchant Marine, trade unionism and workers’ rights via multiple publications, websites and social-media accounts. Job duties include writing, editing, page layout, photography and photo editing, event planning and coverage, supporting headquarters and union-hall personnel as requested, and whatever else needs to be done. Travel typically is infrequent.

Required:

• Minimum two years of full-time experience in an editorial/communications field.
• Proficiency with Adobe InDesign.
• Demonstrated writing skills.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but will consider strong candidate with associate’s degree.

Helpful but not necessary:

• Familiarity with labor movement.
• Knowledge of AP style.
• Video-editing experience.
• Familiarity with U.S. maritime industry.

Salary: from $55,000 per year
