Organizer-In-Training

SEIU Texas, an affiliate of the 2 million member strong Service Employees International Union, unites more than 6,000 healthcare workers, janitors, security officers and airport workers in Corpus Christi, El Paso, and Houston who have secured better wages, benefits, and working conditions through their union.

We are hiring Organizers-In-Training for a full-time position that is funded for one year. Upon successful completion of the year, there is a possibility to transfer to a permanent position.

What we are looking for:

• No previous union or political experience is necessary.
• People that are hungry to learn how to organize and mobilize working people.
• A willingness to learn new skills and challenge themselves to develop in new areas.
• Life experiences, more than just formal education.
• People that understand the basic principle that using strength in numbers is the way to deal with workplace injustices.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours.

Requirements

• Commitment to social justice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours.
• Experience and knowledge of computer programs (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and database software).
• Driver’s license and reliable car.
• Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination

Salary

• Salary $45,000
• Auto Allowance of $450/month (working vehicle required)
• Generous healthcare plan and benefits

Location: This position is based out of SEIU Texas’ office in Corpus Christi, TX.

Bi-lingual (Spanish) candidates are preferred.
