Membership Consultants
(UniServ Membership Consultant)

The Ohio Education Association (OEA) is seeking two (2) Membership Consultants (UniServ Membership Consultant) to join the Organizing and Member Engagement team. The Membership Consultant is a critical role in the organization, responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating OEA membership activities to achieve OEA’s statewide membership recruitment, retention and engagement strategy and goals, with attention to approaches that support an organizing model.

The position reports to the Director of Organizing and Member Engagement, and is based in Columbus, Ohio.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, develops, and implements OEA’s membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategy
  • Plans, develops, and implements OEA’s engagement strategy for millennial and early career educators to ensure the vitality and sustainability of the OEA’s membership pipeline
  • In consultation with the department director and other designated staff, develops and implements strategies and tactics to build local association capacity and leadership development
  • Recommends membership promotion and experiences that create loyalty, enthusiasm, and engagement by OEA members
  • Researches, collects, and analyzes membership data and trends; develops and communicates membership recruitment, retention, and engagement best practices
  • Plans and conducts training for local leaders and OEA staff aimed to support and effectively implement membership best practices
  • Assists in the development of membership materials
  • Coordinates and implements member benefit communication strategies
  • Acts as an OEA resource and source of information in areas of assignment
  • Serves as a resource consultant and program presenter in areas of assignment
  • Serves as a staff consultant to assigned governance groups
  • Supports field operations as assigned
  • Serves as a liaison/advisor and subject matter expert as assigned
  • Attends major conferences, workshops, etc. in areas of assignment and disseminates relevant information obtained at said approved professional training
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor within the job description

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in developing and implementing evidence-based, membership engagement strategies
  • At least 1-year field organizing experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following:
    • Identifying and developing strategies aimed at building and retaining membership segments and measuring and analyzing the effectiveness of such strategies.
    • Contemporary organizing methods and tools.
    • Planning, developing, and implementing engagement strategies for millennial and early career educators.
    • Local capacity-building.
    • Using social media and other digital communication tools.
    • Executing effective on-the-ground and online strategies that support member engagement and broaden and deepen member loyalty, enthusiasm, and activism.
    • Researching, collecting, and analyzing membership data and trends; and,
    • Developing and communicating membership recruitment, retention, and engagement best practices.
  • Ability to:
    • Present, translate and facilitate discussion on membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategy to groups.
    • Apply research when communicating and translating the association's membership recruitment, retention and engagement strategy and goals and programs to members, staff, and other groups.
    • Motivate, engage, and mobilize members and leaders.
    • Utilize adult learning theory to plan and conduct professional development for OEA members, leaders and OEA staff at conferences and events aimed to support and effectively implement membership best practices and develop leaders; and,
    • Communicate ideas and concepts clearly and effectively orally, in writing and with contemporary electronic technologies. Effective public speaking skills.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills, and ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively on complex issues with cross-functional, diverse teams (internal and external).
  • A willingness to travel extensively throughout the state, work evenings and weekends as needed and directed to achieve the goals of the OEA.
