Operations Manager

The Houston Organization of Public Employees (AFSCME Local 123) is a dynamic labor union representing over 12,000 City of Houston Municipal Employees. Position Description:
The Operations Manager responsibilities associated with the role vary depending on the needs of the field operation and membership needs. Generally speaking, the Operations Manager or Ops, works closely with the field team to drive the work of the logistics and administrative components of the union to support organizational growth and success.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepares all personnel and payroll documents such as: activity reports, leave balances, and staff expense reports for supervisor’s review and signature.
  • Prepare check requests and orders food for meetings and events.
  • General office management including office supplies, postage, kitchen supplies, copier supplies and stationery, etc.
  • Maintain the office filing system including paper files, file cabinets & electronic files.
  • Update database and complete data entry.
  • Update and maintain membership lists with the City of Houston.
  • Maintain a weekly calendar of union activities and schedule.
  • Coordinate as needed with staff, officers, and union committees for admin support.
  • Plan and coordinate logistics for regular union meetings and special events, including staffing, support materials, refreshments and online meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience in office/clerical, campaign or general administrative work.
  • Commitment to social and economic justice.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability in systems management.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • General knowledge of standard office computer networks, both hardware and software.
  • Ability to manage high volume of incoming data and input.
  • Preference is fluency in English and Spanish.
