Media Coordinator

The Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) is the largest housestaff union in the United States. We are a local of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing over 17,000 resident physicians who are dedicated to improving residency training and education, advancing patient care, and expanding healthcare access for our communities. Job Summary:
The primary assignment of the Media Coordinator is to develop CIR’s image and branding. The Media Coordinator manages CIR’s websites, social media presence and newsletter. The Media Coordinator develops content, media and advertising for use in the individual regions and hospitals and for national projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing CIR’s brand/image.
  • Writing and editing articles, press releases/advisories and op-eds, shooting/editing photos and video, and engaging in media outreach.
  • Maintaining and developing CIR’s multiple websites using CMS (content management system), social media presence and multi-media newsletter.
  • Coordinate with CIR regions and departments to identify communications needs and opportunities.
  • Building relationships with members, leaders and media outlets.
  • Ensure that key messages align with vital Union strategies

CIR is looking for candidates who have:

  • Proficiency in video and web-based communications, layout and design.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Understanding relevant healthcare/economic/political issues.
  • Ability to think critically through problems.
  • Ability to facilitate the learning of others.
  • Ability to critically evaluate one’s own performance, incorporating feedback into improving performance.
  • Ability to develop one’s own skills, acquire relevant knowledge and proactively seek opportunities to learn.
  • Effective and appropriate communication with members, staff, administrators and supervisors.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrates respectful and responsible behavior.
  • Well prepared, organized and able to manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrates an interest in the work and the membership.
  • Desire and commitment to advance the organization.


  • Relevant technical experience and/or education in video and web-based communication (HTML, Dreamweaver, CSS)
  • Relevant organizing experience (union/community/political)
  • Excellent writing and photography skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks and think critically
  • Ability to independently develop and acquire relevant job knowledge
  • Ability to build and manage relationships
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work long hours
  • Willing to travel
