Communications Coordinator

Based in Burbank, CA


IATSE Local 871 is seeking candidates for the position of Communications Coordinator. IATSE Local 871 represents a diverse group of crafts in Film, Television, Commercial and Broadcast Production – Script Supervisors, Teleprompter Operators, Production and Assistant Production Coordinators, Art Department Coordinators, Production and Assistant Accountants, Script Coordinators, Writers’ Room Assistants and Sports Stage Managers. The Local has been experiencing significant growth in the last few years and has a current opening for a Communications Coordinator.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the Local’s brand identity and ensuring all materials, printed or online, adhere to the Local’s cohesive appearance; internet and new media communication with our membership; designing ads for printed and online industry and union publications; conducting on-line surveys; preparing excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations; researching and putting together presentations for meetings and negotiations.

Duties include but are not limited to: all on-line communication with the membership including weekly, biweekly and daily email blasts, website updates, Social Media Management; preparation & layout of the quarterly newsletter with some editorial responsibility; presentations, video conferencing and social media; liaison with IT vendors; Audio Visual set up for remote and in-person meetings; provide guidance on new or replacement software and hardware; general office support, including answering phones as needed.

Candidates must have excellent communication and editing skills; be tech savvy including proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign Photoshop and/or Illustrator), Google Docs, etc., Zoom, some knowledge of HTML and facility with website content management systems, ability to learn and become proficient with use of company database and other software and hardware.

Candidates must be team players; must have meticulous attention to detail and ability to focus on minute details for extended time periods; must have the ability to keep detailed records and notes; must have an aptitude for research and organized work habits; be a good listener; have the patience to teach and explain new software and hardware; be comfortable talking with members, Local union leadership and working with other unions and have a desire to learn as technology changes. Candidates should strive to provide stellar customer service and have a desire to promote union membership and activism.
