Manager, General Accounting

Washington D.C. based International Labor Union has available Manager, General Accounting position.  

The Manager, General Accounting is responsible for the coordination and submission of all financial reports, including the annual financial audit; ensuring that all financial records of the organization are maintained accurately and produced on a timely basis; coordinating the month end close process

  • Responsible for month-end closing process and leading the fiscal year end close out activities.
  • Oversees preparation of monthly internal financial reports. Ensures that monthly financial reports are both timely and accurate.
  • Reviews bank accounts reconciliation.
  • Reviews the General Ledger to ensure that activity and balances are timely reconciled and that adjusting journal entries are prepared when necessary.
  • Coordinates audit activities. Reviews audit reports and prepare and compile responses, as required.
  • Develops and maintains financial accounting policies and procedures that ensure strong internal controls, timeliness and compliance.
  • Prepare annual filings with the PBGC and initiate payments
  • Review quarterly and year end reconciliations of payroll Forms 941/945/W2
  • Work with investment custodian and independent fiduciary on accounting for and financial statement presentation of investments
  • Provide information for and review IRS/DOL Form 5500 and Form 990 filings prepared by auditors
  • Support preparation of the annual DOL LM-2 report


  • BS Degree in Accounting and CPA required.  
  • Minimum of five years of general ledger and supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to apply GAAP in a variety of situations
  • In-depth knowledge of automated accounting applications and MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Significant experience in non-profit accounting, familiarity with 5500’s, 990’s as well as Federal tax filings
  • Excellent communication, organization and management skills
