The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) represents the 27,000+ Flight Attendants of American Airlines, an airline that consists of aviation professionals with a diverse history brought together from multiple airlines. From APFA’s inception in 1977, the Union has fiercely advocated for the Flight Attendant profession. It has been at the forefront of the fight for workplace equality, legislative affairs, women’s, and human rights.

APFA is looking for a Staff Attorney responsible for a wide array of counsel to union officers and members. The successful candidate will advise and counsel on matters regarding grievances, discipline, contract administration, labor and employment law, and federal law. The staff attorney will also provide support for organizing campaigns and preparing and presenting training courses to union leadership.

The successful candidate will represent the Union in arbitrations, conduct legal research, advise on contract administration, write briefs, review documents, advise and assist with the intent and practice of the APFA Constitution & Policy Manual, manage internal issues within APFA, and externally with American Airlines and the public. The position may also perform a wide range of duties to include representing APFA in federal court litigation, agency proceedings, and other governmental entities.

On occasion, the successful candidate may assist the Lead Negotiating Attorney, and in the future, conduct negotiations of Flight Attendant collective bargaining agreements with air carriers on behalf of the Union.

The successful candidate will have a law degree and admission to the bar, at least 2+ years’ experience working for or with labor unions, and is a proponent of labor. Ideal candidates will have experience in Roberts Rules of Order, drafting bylaws, resolutions, and policies, familiarity with the commercial aviation industry, the Flight Attendant profession and the Railway Labor Act, and experience in labor negotiations, litigation matters, labor law, civil rights, disability, arbitration, and contract administration.
