Political Organizer

Texas AFT is seeking a Political Organizer (RFOs) for the 2020 election. This position will be charged with executing aggressive field and organizing plans in the Richardson area and will be working on races up and down the ticket organizing Texas AFT members, working with endorsed candidates, and implementing the long-term political goals of the organization. Organizers will report directly to the Director of Organizing, working in concert with the State Affiliate Political Organizer (SAPO).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building regional volunteer infrastructure using team models.
  • Identifying, recruiting, and training volunteer leaders.
  • Working with the SAPO and Director of Organizing to develop and execute volunteer and leader trainings.
  • Developing a regional organizing plan in coordination with the SAPO and Director of Organizing.
  • Ensuring that sufficient progress is being made for all short- and long-term goals.
  • Developing and managing relationships with local leaders and volunteers.
  • Reporting detailed and regular regional activities and program results.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive work environment and culture throughout the region.
  • Coordinating and participating in direct voter contact and member programs to motivate and mobilize voters.
  • Implementing adjustments as necessary.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Two to three cycles of campaign experience or comparable organizing experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to and motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Capable of conducting effective one-on-one conversations to move workers to action.
  • Experience using social media to communicate and engage workers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Proven experience excelling in fast paced and metrics driven work environments.
  • Willingness to think creatively and solve problems proactively.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and train others.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of campaign technology including Voter Activation Network.
