Make the Road Connecticut is a statewide organization that builds power of immigrants and low-income Latinx in Hartford and Bridgeport to achieve dignity and justice. We do this by community organizing, legal and survival services, transformative education, and policy innovation. We tackle the issues that directly impact our communities of color: immigration reform, economic justice, education equity, LGBTQ justice, womxn’s justice and youth justice.

We seek an energetic full-time Youth Organizer who can help sustain, grow, and foster the MRCT Youth Power Committee that consists of students in the K-12 public school system in Bridgeport that range from ages of 13 years old to 21 years old. MRCT’s leaders to grow our membership base, develop new leadership and execute campaigns. The organizer will work through our committee model. The committees drive our work and it’s the space where campaign and action planning, political education, and orientation to our organization takes place. The youth organizer will report to our Organizing Director, Norma Martinez-HoSang.


  • Conduct regular recruitment to the Youth Power Committee base of membership
  • Engage youth leaders to support their outreach, education and other work that they are doing
  • Facilitate committee meetings and work with members to facilitate meetings
  • Develop popular education materials that support the campaigns and facilitate regular popular education workshops as part of committee meetings
  • Develop testimonies with members for press, and work with directly impacted people to give testimonies that advance our campaigns
  • Work with the committee to develop and execute long and short-term campaigns and actions
  • Launch the 1st annual Summer Youth Academy including - recruit participants, develop curriculum work plan, and supervise youth participants

Bridgeport Youth Organizer must have the following:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience organizing or a member leader with a membership-based organizing group and a proven track record organizing in immigrant, Latinx, and black communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change
  • Speaking and writing in English/Spanish is required.
  • A car, driver’s license, car insurance is required.
  • Able to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment at a small but growing organization

Competitive annual salary based on relevant work experience, education, and other factors. This is a full-time position that includes a generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance and 401K.
