Association Overview
Clark County Education Association is the largest independent education union in the Country that represents 18,000+ Pre K-12 licensed employees in 360 schools in the Clark County School District (CCSD) which is the fifth largest school district in the USA. CCEA is also the largest educator’s union in Nevada. CCEA provides collective bargaining, contract representation, professional development, legal services, legislative advocacy and political programs to win for our members. CCEA’s record of political accomplishment in Nevada politics has resulted in significant advances for educators and public education.

The Director Strategic Initiatives:
CCEA is positioned to run two statewide ballot initiatives to raise over $1 billion annually for Nevada’s k-12 education system. This is called campaign is called Strategic Horizons. The Director will be part of the leadership team overseeing this campaign. In addition, the Director will support the development of a change management strategy for organization-wide transformational projects, including the adopting an organizational growth plan and a high performing political program. This position will interact with the senior staff team across the organization to gain their alignment and support for the effective implementation and long-term sustainability of cross-functional initiatives. This position requires a high profile to the community and political and business world. This position will require accountability for performance and successful results. A successful candidate will be a proven strategic thinker, a successful implementer of organizational change, and experience in running statewide campaigns. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Job Responsibilities:
Initial Campaign set up shall include:

  • Work on the Strategic Horizon Campaign Plan in conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Define organizational expectations for the campaign
  • Define working model and integration with all departments

Ongoing support responsibilities for specific strategic initiatives:

  • Grow political influence with ten (10) year growth strategy taking into account three (5) election cycles and three (5) Nevada Legislative Sessions including a 2021 redistricting Session and a 2022 Governor election.
  • Develop organizational growth plans that reach 70% density by 2022.
  • Develop and build CCEA innovation center and the construction of a new $10 million complex and the expansion of a 501 (c) 3.

Ongoing responsibilities for transformation initiatives:

  • Develop senior level updates on program status and risks
  • Provide support to senior staff members on critical issues
  • Provide strategic leadership to advise and structure opportunities, identify themes and make connections of opportunities across functional areas
  • Develop senior-level presentations, program updates, set targets, timelines; interact with senior leadership team

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in business, organizational strategies or related quantitative field.
  • Seven years leadership in business, or related quantitative field.
  • Experience in running state wide ballot initiatives and campaigns.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and business acumen as demonstrated through previous work experience and accomplishments.
  • Can effectively translate long-term strategic vision into short and medium term tactical operational initiatives, goals, and projects, both upwards and downwards in the organization. Can communicate both the technical details as well as provide high-level summaries and overviews to reach multiple constituents.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize under pressure of deadlines, while working independently. Knows how to escalate appropriately, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to present information in clear, concise terms to all position levels in the Company. Ability to be persuasive with senior executives, yet tactful.
  • Strong and savvy interpersonal skills to work with a variety of internal constituencies, develop partner relationships and rapport, and influence thinking of senior staff members. Deal collaboratively and effectively with all organizational contacts while mitigating and managing conflict.
  • Effective project manager able to implement projects with key stakeholders on time and within budget
  • Strong team management ability to manage and develop next level of senior leaders while also guiding and working with junior team members, including ability to structure and direct analytical work streams, develop and train employees, and foster a high-performance and motivated team environment.
  • Superior level of initiative, drive, and attention to detail. Understands short- and long-term goals and can handle details to ensure successful project completion and execution of strategic vision.
  • Demonstrated leader who can direct their team and organization towards a common vision.
  • Must have high ethical standards and ability to exercise sound judgment in dealing with politically sensitive situations and catering to differing interests. Champions diversity of thought and opinion.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • MBA degree from graduate business school.
  • Three years of post-MBA work experience, at top-tier management consulting firm, or in a senior strategy at a major employer in a public sector industry.
  • In-depth familiarity with the public education industry, change management, and how to improve operational performance in an efficient and effective manner.
