Texas AFT/AMP is seeking a Membership Specialist for our Austin office. The position is supervised by the Administrative Services Coordinator. This position works with other state and national staff representing the Texas AFT and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) as well as over 600 school districts in the State of Texas. This position involves data entry and customer service with the Texas AFT/AMP project. Applicants should have a working knowledge of unions and a strong commitment to the labor movement.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is for a Membership Support Specialist for the TFT/AMP Project. Membership Support Specialist provide basic membership support, interact with school districts for the collection of member dues, process applications, correspond with members and staff, assist with filing, shipping and large mailings as assigned, answer multi-line phones, enter data, and other clerical duties as assigned.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enter membership applications into databases; update or correct database records as needed
  • Work directly with members, regional secretaries, and school district payroll contacts
  • Process payments from school districts and members
  • Process cancellations and refund requests
  • Process credit card payments and declines
  • Work on special projects (e.g. database cleanup, addressing incorrect or missing dues payments) as assigned by office manager
  • Correspond with members and staff via email and phone

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior Clerical experience in the following
  • Answering multi line telephones
  • Professional customer service skills
  • Data entry
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Strong Commitment to the labor movement
  • Computer literacy required; some database experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license

COMPENSATION: Competitive salary and benefits package governed by a collective bargaining agreement.

HOURS: 8-5 Monday – Friday
