IATSE Communications Coordinator

Based in New York City, NY

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) is the largest trade union representing behind-the-scenes workers in all facets of the entertainment industry in the United States and Canada.

The IATSE seeks an experienced and skilled Communications Coordinator to work in the Communications Department and carry out strategic communications duties. This position reports to the Director of Communications, and maintains regular contact with the other departments (Stagecraft, Motion Picture & Television Production, Broadcast, Tradeshow, Education & Training, Political / Legislative, and Canadian Affairs) and local unions. This position is based in our New York City office.

Description of Duties (including but not limited to)

  • Produce informative and engaging content for IATSE Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
  • Maintain and publish content to official website and official social media accounts, as well as maintaining a content calendar.
  • Co-manage email program – write and send informative and engaging emails via Action Network;
  • Work with other departments to provide communications assistance;
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for organizing drives when needed;
  • Provide communications assistance and resources to local unions when needed;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Qualifications
Experience & Education Requirements:

  • Labor or other social justice work experience strongly preferred; demonstrated commitment to these values required;
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in campaign / labor communications, public relations, labor or community organizing, journalism or other related experience;
  • Experience working with people from a diverse array of backgrounds;
  • Previous experience with the labor movement or other advocacy organizations, and/or a bachelors’ degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related subject.

Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated graphic / visual design skills;
  • Experience with Action Network or other email and digital organizing platform;
  • Experience with Drupal or other content management programs;
  • Public relations or press experience is a plus;
  • High degree of computer literacy and knowledge of social media.
  • Can handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
  • Can work independently while setting own goals, and also handle multiple personalities in team environments;
  • Ability to travel as required;
  • Ability to work long and extended hours when needed.
