Contract Administrator or Organizer

Based in Lincoln, NE

The Nebraska Association of Public Employees (NAPE/AFSCME Local 61) looks to fill the position of Contract Administrator or Organizer in Lincoln, Nebraska to replace a retiring staff member.

Job Description
The union field staff position of Contract Administrator provides representation services to members including contract negotiations, grievance handling from filing through arbitration, recruiting, training, and assisting stewards, working with our coalition partners, lobbyists, other unions, internal organizing and political action.

Job Duties

  • Assists with contract negotiations
  • Represents, advises, and assists members in disciplinary investigations, grievances, appeals, arbitration hearings, and hearings before the State Personnel Board
  • Recruits and develops worksite union stewards
  • Organizes new members, and participates in organizing campaigns


  • For position of Contract Administrator, three or more years of related work experience, particularly with public sector unions. In lieu of this experience, candidates may be considered for the position of “Organizer”
  • Experience and leadership skills to train, motivate, and educate members
  • Experience drafting contract language and proposals
  • Knowledge and/or ability to acquire computer skills
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours, including weekends
  • Willingness to travel overnight to all areas of Nebraska
  • Knowledge of labor unions and public sector labor law

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in the Google Suite
  • Video editing, website development skills
  • Social media proficiency - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

Salary & Benefits
The positions of Contract Administrator and Organizer are covered by a collective bargaining agreement with a salary range of $40,000 to $60,000 depending on experience, education, and skills. Single coverage health care is provided at no cost to employees, and generous vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays are offered.

Founded in 1972, the union was instrumental in securing collective bargaining rights for state employees in the 1980s.
