Member Services Organizer

Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Member Services Director, the position is responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of relationships with community based organizations and in responding to providers and consumers participating in the Exchange.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. The Organizer will do field work conducting initial outreach meetings, creating and nurturing organizational relationships with Community based organizations such as Service Centers, Senior Centers, Adult Day Health Care Centers, Bingo Centers, and other social networks that serve the Disabled and Seniors within LA County. Engagement may entail a variety of methods including presentations, discussions, appointments, events and cold calls to groups and/or individuals.
  2. The Organizer will attend to walk ins, MAC escalations, and the goals and objectives of Member Service Department.
  3. The Organizer may oversee various member related activities including but not limited to Internship Programs; recruitment, development, and coordination of Volunteers assisting the Department; Developing Leaders; Facilitating Exchange Provider Orientations and New Member Orientations, and conducting membership and COPE sign ups.
  4. With direction from the department leadership, the Organizer will develop and implement outreach plans that integrate training of member activists to assist in the Community based outreach effort and will be part of a team of staff who will be integrating both Providers and Consumers into the Exchange, responding to phone calls, insuring that all Exchange participants have filled out appropriate applications; entering data and updating information into the Exchange Database
  5. The Organizer will be expected to develop a weekly work plan to advance the goals of Member Services, as well as provide regular reports on the results of Community outreach.
  6. Creating and or maintaining various data systems for tracking and monitoring compliance with department and Union programs such as COPE and membership drive, petition drives, and membership mobilization.
  7. Creates spreadsheets, updates and maintains Local 2015 databases which include entering of membership cards, entering COPE cards, activities reporting, organizing lists, and leadership lists.
  8. Maintaining and updating the database for both Local 2015 and the Homecare Exchange.
  9. Have the ability to create pertinent flyers
  10. They will be expected to coordinate member committees that advance the goals and objectives of the Department and Local 2015.
  11. Works on special projects as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  12. Perform other duties as required to support the department and mission of the organization.

Required Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Strong initiative and ability to work under pressure, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good independent judgment
  • Ability to make effective use of union resources, technology and other available tools
  • Basic computer literacy on Windows-based computer programs in order to perform necessary campaign data management and administrative work (create spreadsheets, data reports, and various presentations).
  • At least two years’ experience in development and delivery of training and education programs for union members and staff is required.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in labor or non-profit organizations related to social and economic causes. Related experience will be given consideration.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license, auto insurance with business coverage, and an automobile for business use.
  • Proficiency using the Internet as a research tool

  • Commitment to provide accurate, efficient and friendly service to staff and members

Physical requirements:
Long and extended hours and travel is required. Work is generally performed out in the field with members, staff and external constituents.

Scope and Nature of Supervision:
Member Services Organizer will report to the Member Services Director, or any other assigned supervisor. Supervision and direction often changes on a campaign-by-campaign or project-by-project basis. Member Services Organizers are frequently expected to operate without day-to-day supervision, to develop their own work plans and goals, and to act with a great degree of discretion and independent judgment. Accordingly, they must be strong self-starters and have a commitment to fulfill the objectives of the organization.
