FIELD CANVASS DIRECTORS

Job:  Working America Canvass Director and Phone Canvass Director Needed $ 38,192

Description:  Recruit, train, develop, and manage a staff of 15-30 organizers and canvass leaders, ensuring the high-quality organizing that gives Working America the reputation of being one of the most sophisticated, professional canvass operations in the country.

Organization:  Working America, community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is a powerful force for working people. We combine the strength of 10 million union men and women and millions of workers without the benefit of a workplace union who share common challenges and goals to fight in communities, states and nationally for what really matters-- affordable health care, reforming Wall Street, good jobs, world-class education, and more.

We work against wrong-headed priorities favoring the rich and corporate special interests over America's well-being.

Working America uses professional research, communication, education, canvassing, lobbying and community organizing to demand that politicians address the priorities that matter most to working people--not just wealthy special interests.

Canvassing Experience?

Working America is the most sophisticated and effective grassroots canvass in the country.  Our goal has been to revolutionize the art and science of canvassing and take grassroots organizing to another level.  If you have worked for a canvass organization in the past, we invite you to experience the difference.  As a part of the AFL-CIO, our work has a real and far-reaching impact on the most important issues in America.  Our compensation levels reflect our demands of excellence and professionalism that have become our trademarks.  We ask for more and we give more.  More experience, better pay, and a larger role on a bigger stage.

 Requirements:

*Canvass Management Experience

6+ months demonstrated success working with a canvass program as a Canvass Director or Field Manager.  Field election campaign experience also considered.  If you do not currently have field experience, you may qualify for rapid training and advancement within Working America.

*Dedication and a Great Work Ethic
Our Canvass Directors work long and irregular hours.  In addition to the daily management of the canvass team, Canvass Directors regularly attend strategy meetings, rallies, and other events throughout the week and on weekends.   Canvass Directors work with a high level of autonomy and are expected to be self-accountable and self-motivated.

*Leadership Qualities
The Canvass Director is the key leader of a city-wide program.  She/he must be able to recruit, train, and motivate a large staff of activists to perform at a high level.  A strong grasp of politics and election dynamics, as well as excellent public presentation skills are necessary in order to clearly communicate the mission of the organization.

*Team Oriented
The primary responsibility of the Canvass Director is to grow large, effective teams of organizers.   Canvass Directors also play a large part on our national team, working with organizational directors and other Canvass Directors to evaluate and shape our organizing strategies.

*Ability to Travel and Relocate
Working America is a swift-moving, flexible organization that has been designed to take on campaigns anywhere in the country at a moment’s notice.  Canvass Directors are required to travel to existing offices for training and temporary assignment and may be asked to relocate for new office start-ups.
