PROJECT RESEARCHER/ORGANIZER

AFT Washington represents early learning professionals in child care centers, Head Start and pre-K as well as K-12, community/technical and four year institution. We represent both faculty and staff.

We are looking for an activist/researcher who has had experience in union campaigns, community organizing or political campaigns. We are seeking a professional with skills in economic analysis, industry research, financial analysis, employment law, corporate research, or investigative journalism. We want a person who is committed to working in the labor movement.
The researcher/organizer will research, develop, and assist in implementing organizing strategies in the corporate and legislative arenas.

Types of work expected:

  • Research the financial and internal structures of potential organizing targets, for profit and not for profit organizations.
  • Board member research and their affiliations.
  • Past union activity and approaches.
  • Public funding history.
  • List building for organizing.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience conducting research for progressive organization(s).
  • BA or MA in economics or social science field.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite) and knowledge of internet, social media outlets.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Corporate campaign experience.

The position will begin in early 2010.
