Job title:  Union field organizer

Job assignment:

Union organizer needed to organize both classified and certified employee constituencies of Fort Bend Employee Federation in Fort Bend ISD.

Job Requirements:

• Expand union presence among the teachers and support personnel.
• Assist in mapping and charting our campuses according to the AFT model
• Must be comfortable with teacher issues as well as classified  issues
• Must be comfortable with political activism including extended hours doing the campaign season
• Should be comfortable with blue collar employee working conditions   and prepared to develop advocacy campaigns around those issues
• Limited grievance work
• Must be a self-starter
• Good verbal and people skills

What does an organizer do?

A union organizer visits work sites in our school district to educate non-union and union members about worker rights and seeks to organize these workers around advocacy campaigns to expand those rights. Speaking to workers, identifying workplace issues, and building relationships is key to the job.  The more we build a union presence the more power we build within the union and the greater influence we will have in the lives of our union members.

Qualifications preferred:

• Proven union organizing experience
• Must be able to work as part of a team
• Ability to show initiative in project leadership
• Strong work ethic

Wages and Benefits:

                    $34,000
